ISIS Malaysia Reappoints Tan Sri Mohamed Jawhar Hassan as Chairman & Dato’ Dr Mahani Zainal Abidin Made CEO

The Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia has reappointed Tan Sri Mohamed Jawhar Hassan as Chairman of the institute’s Board of Directors and the appointment of the Director-General, Dato’ Dr Mahani Zainal Abidin as Chief Executive Officer, with effect from 9 January.

Tan Sri Mohamed Jawhar has served as Chairman and CEO of ISIS Malaysia since January 2006. He joined the institute in 1990 after serving the Government in various capacities. Tan Sri Jawhar is a member of the ASEAN Regional Forum’s Expert and Eminent Persons Group and a Distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR). He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. His other appointments include Chairman of the New Straits Times and board member for Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas).

Dato’ Dr Mahani graduated with a PhD in development economics from the University of London. She joined ISIS Malaysia as its Director-General in 2007. Dato’ Dr Mahani previously served as Deputy Director-General of the Higher Education Division in the Ministry of Higher Education and as Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of Malaya. She is currently a Council Member of the National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC) and a trustee for Yayasan 1Malaysia.

 
Special visit to Hong kong

Special visit to Hong Kong, 2-5 November 2009.

Dato' Dr. Mahani & Hon. Alan Leong

Dato’ Dr. Mahani Zainal Abidin, at the invitation of the Information Services Department, Government of Hong Kong visited Hong Kong for four days, commencing 3 November 2009. The Special Visit comprised a series of 18 meetings with high ranking officials in the Hong Kong Government administration, academicians and private sector experts.

The officials and experts whom Dato’ Dr. Mahani Zainal Abidin met included Hon. Alan Leong, Senior Counsel of the Kowloon East Constituency; Mr. Stephen Chung, Principal Assistant Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs; Mr. Edward Leung, Chief Economist of Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Professor Wong Siu Lun, Director of Centre of Asian Studies, University of Hong Kong; Ms. Linda Lai, Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce and Industry); Mr. Andrew Au, Principal Economist of Financial Secretary’s Office; and Ms. Hendena Yu, Chief Operating Officer (Enforcement) of Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority.

 
DG awarded Datoship

The Director General of ISIS Malaysia, Dr Mahani Zainal Abidin has been awarded the Darjah Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (DSAP) which carries the title “Dato’” in conjunction with the 79th birthday of the Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah on 24 October 2009.
