Overview
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak announced the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) beginning 1 April 2015 during the tabling of the 2014 Budget on 25 October 2013. The implementation will provide Malaysia the significant steps towards fiscal sustainability and becoming a part of the national economic reforms which will support economic stability and development. As Malaysia is relatively new in the area of tax reform, this forum brings UK and Singapore practitioners to share experiences and possible lessons, both positive and negative, of the Value-Added Tax and sets the stage for a lively and productive discussion on the introduction of GST in Malaysia. The forum is relevant to all sectors of Malaysia society including GST policymakers, implementers and practitioners, as well as interested members of the public.
