Overview
The theme of the Survey 2016 is “Nurturing productivity for inclusive growth and sustainable development.” The report highlights that the pace of economic expansion in the Asia-Pacific region has decelerated considerably in recent years, with potential consequences for poverty, inequality and employment prospects. The report argues that the next phase of the region’s economic growth should be driven by broad-based productivity gains and further rebalancing towards domestic and regional demand. This would require higher and targeted fiscal spending, enhanced skills, better infrastructure, and improved agricultural productivity.
