The Care Economy has great economic growth potential for Malaysia. Valuing Unpaid Care Work (UCW) which includes unpaid care and domestic work performed primarily by women, could potentially contribute RM379 billion to national GDP.

Malaysia stands to enable 3.2 million additional workers to engage in paid employment, which would unlock 4.9% in GDP growth just for 2022, if such essential multi-sectoral investments are made.

Lee Min Hui and Calvin Cheng highlight the opportunities and benefits of Care Infrastructure Investments for achieving Malaysia’s overall development agenda, while addressing demographic challenges such as falling fertility and a rapidly ageing society.
