“Localising SDGs and Local Issues” book launch by Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Dato’ Johari bin Abdul
Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Dato’ Johari bin Abdul officially launched “Localising SDGs and Local Issues” in Parliament on 16 March 2023. The event was attended by Parliamentarians from both sides of the aisle, as well as Karima El Korri, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore. Also in attendance was ISIS Malaysia senior fellow and head of the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM-SDG) Prof Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria.
The book, edited by ISIS Malaysia senior director (research) Alizan Mahadi and Dr Zainal Abidin Sanusi, compiles the findings of the issue mapping and assessment of the delivery challenges under the pilot phase of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on SDGs (APPGM-SDG). It consists of findings in 10 constituencies where a situational analysis was conducted.
The findings present a bottom-up and grounded approach to identify the issues and solutions to local challenges. The APPGM-SDG approach demonstrated that through multi-stakeholder engagement, involving parliamentarians, solutions can be found and elevated as a policy priority.
